Team Lead within the newly formed CBS Interactive Music Group, maintaining all Radio.com, Yahoo and AOL music products, working in Research & Development of future technology.
A web and native iOS app functional proof of concept designed to harmonize the group listening experience, offering crowds the ability to easily connect, explore and participate in their music scene. We developed a web plug-in that when installed at any brick and mortar venue would scrape the streaming data of major online streaming audio products, Pandora, Spotify, Slacker... sending this data to a central API, a consumer facing app could surface this information immediately within a mobile app being server side driven, rather than using a Shazam or SoundHound app through AI and sound recognition.
This POC utilized proprietary technology which resulted in a patent for non-streaming, non royalty based music service: “techniques to track music played”.
Growing into a team lead throughout my time with CBS Radio from 2007 - 2013, working with engineering and executive leadership, managing the development, operations and strategy for a broad portfolio of web and mobile products, mergers and acquisitions. CBS Radio and the network of 128 stations had little to no online presence upon joining the company. The team took CBS Radio's stations and over a short time developed a comprehensive and immersive consumer facing digital experience, providing an online presence the company never had before.
Radio 2.0, 2008 Launch (Phase I) CBS Radio's proprietary web based streaming engine, developed from the ground up. At the time within the web space there was no major commercial radio company that provided an immersive, interactive and personalized streaming experience. Most radio technology had been focused around satellite, broadcast and HD, the investment that CBS put into streaming via HTTP, and the development of Radio 2.0 platform allowed for the company to become the number one most listened to radio network in the world by 2010.
Play.it 2008 Launch A web product providing consumers the ability to create, play and share their own radio stations. Programming stations within an interactive drag and drop web interface, using artists, genres and CBS radio station programing to influence playlists. Designed for users to integrate targeted advertising of their choice to take a percentage of overall revenue based on station audience and listener base.
AOL & Yahoo Radio 2009/2010 Launches AOL Radio & Yahoo Radio, were the two largest online streaming radio networks, and looked to CBS to power their platform to their very dedicated audiences. We expanded the digital music library from hundreds of thousands to a multi-million song catalogue throughout the collaboration with AOL.
Radio.com The central portal and brand providing station directory landing page for the many personalized, custom and over the air radio broadcast stations.
By April 2010, the team had launched a portfolio of iPhone, Blackberry, Android, and the first ever iPad radio app for the various streaming networks of CBS Radio, Radio.com, AOL Radio, Yahoo Radio. By 2011 these networks had over 15 million monthly active listeners, with over 100 million page views, and over 60 million monthly listening hours within the interactive streaming media player network.
